Just Watched: Freaks and Geeks

Image
Freaks and Geeks was a short lived  TV show that ran back in 1999-2000.   Only 17 episodes were produced. Subsequently it has developed a kind of cult following due to the both the actors who appeared in it (Jason Segel, James Franco and Seth Rogen being the most famous) and the man who produced it (Judd Apatow).  This Christmas the IFC channel ran a marathon and I recorded it. I just finished watching the series and the praise was well deserved.  The series did an excellent job of not letting characters get trapped by their stereotype.  There's a real sense of desperation under the surface.  While funny in many ways it's also the saddest TV series I've ever seen.  It also has a really well executed and resolved arc for only a single season.  It stands alone well.  If you get a chance, definitely watch it.
